usb connection for cat and audio…?

Basically, no, you cannot do it all from the USB connector. That is for remote control only.

You have to use a combination of the USB connector for remote control, the speaker out for audio into your PC, and AUX jack or MIC jack for transmit audio into the radio. You can also just use the MIC jack for transmit audio AND PTT for transmit, but you still have to use the speaker out for audio out to the PC. The radio partially emulates an ICOM 7000 for remote control CAT commands (search for ICOM CAT commands to learn about them).

There is no single magic solution, but I’ve made many digital QSO’s on PSK31, Contestia, Olympia, and a few JT65 using Multi PSK, Ham Radio Deluxe (with the embedded DM780 display program).

I initially used the USB cable for getting frequency data to the radio, and the RJ45 MIC jack for PTT and audio into the radio, and speaker out for audio to my PC. i used and old DigiPan MIC adapter. I had to use a 2nd USB-to-Serial adapter since the old DigiPan was serial port only.

A firmware update in late December fixed an issue with the PTT via the USB port. I now use that, and speaker out and AUX audio in.

KD5HVO

keep in mind that the audio output jack is a stereo jack. Careful reading of the manual reveals this. (("External speaker output — Speaker or Headphone (3.5 stereo Socket); Otherwise it will damage the rig.... P. 11)).

Therefore, do not use a mono audio plug or the "ring channel" will be shorted out and this could damage the audio output amplifier. Using only one channel, the "Tip Channel," is not a problem if a stereo headphone or external speaker is not used. There is plenty of volume available. This design is to make it easy for using the most common type of headphone out there. Also, since I do not plan to open my radio unless necessary, this is a practical consideration, for me. Photos of the boards make me see in my mind's eye the words, "Don't go there!" Unless something smokes, the covers stay in place.

Just to add: I use the Buxcomm Rascal III - Bought the one with the ICOM 7000 RJ45 mic connect. Works great. Sometimes the incoming signals are loud enough to trigger TX, but once you get the hang of the sound levels, it is pretty easy.
From the box to my first QSO was 15mins.
Well worth it. It has been in use since December 2015 - No problems yet.

Anyone has the microphone pinout for the X108-G OLED ?
I'm working on an automatic tuner interface using a 1 Khz tone generator at the MIC input, and using an Elecraft T1 tuner. Need the Microphone pinout from pins 1 to 8 please.
Thanks !

Dear administrator!
You write "A firmware update in late December fixed an issue with the PTT via the USB port. I now use that, and speaker out and AUX audio in.". I established firmware from the website of the producer, the file Name: outdoor version of X108G firmware update_build024, Size: 135.96KB, Date Added: 05/01/2016. But, unfortunately, X-108G from the Ham Radio Deluxe program does not execute the PTT command and does not pass into the transfer mode.
Very much I ask for your help to me. Please send me your firmware with which my X-108G will work completely.
With great respect, sincerely yours

I want to add one more information, will be perhaps useful to other participants of a forum.
firmware Name: Outdoor version of X108G_OLED_FW_V2.00.0_build004, Size: 125.18KB, Date Added: 06/05/2016 is posted on the website of the producer.
After its loading X-108G at me the supply voltage became wrong to be displayed - instead of 13,8 there was 16,5 V. And also S-metr has ceased to work.
It is also very important to disconnect surely an USB cable from the transceiver after installation of new firmware as it is written down in the instruction for updating, and then only to include ON. If not to make it, X-108G can join with the dark screen.

I am a new X-108G owner (SN 104xx), and I would like to use the radio in digital modes with either my MacBook Air or my iPad. I have purchased a Rigblaster from West Mountain Radio for the audio interfacing.

Has anyone confirmed for certain if the AUX jack on this radio is functional, and what it does if it is a working connection?

The AUX socket on X-108G works. It is an entrance AUDIO. On it AUDIO OUT signal from PC is given. I successfully use X-108G for work in WSPR. However there is no work experience with iOS, I have Windows 10.

Спасибо большое, Oleg! Is there any advantage to using the AUX jack for digital input over the RJ45 mic jack? With the RJ-45, it looks like I can control PTT and audio in, and I would not need to use AUX?

Hi Stanley! I control PTT through USB port. At the same time I select from the controlling program Icom IC-7000, COM3. To the RJ-45 connector I have connected microphone, from its keypad it is more convenient to control X-108G.

I have set up all the connections like Oleg mentioned, but I cannot get any of the digital or rig control software to work reliably with the virtual COM port. Some programs will not read frequency or control PTT at all. Others will work for a little while, but then stop working or crash in the middle of an attempted QSO.

I have tried different USB cables, and have used 4 different computers - 2 Windows, and 2 Macintosh. I think something may be wrong with the radio, or the emulation of the IC-7000 is just not very good.

The response I got from both the vendor and Xiegu is that Ham Radio Deluxe is the only piece of software known to work with the X108G. That was not the answer I was hoping to hear, and I am selling my X108G to switch to a Japanese or American transceiver that can work with a variety of software control programs.

My question concerns the AUX jack on the back. I see reference to audio input but was not able to get the radio to work with this input. Is the jack a stereo jack or two conductor? The radio is new and of march production with current firmware.
I am new to the X108G and have been primarily using the digital modes. The audio input via the microphone is a bit sensitive for my likes. I have been using the DIN audio input with very good success since it requires more audio drive and is more adjustable.

Has anyone been successful at running PACTOR 3 with the X108G. I have not been able to get this working. I don't believe the switching between TX and RX is fast enough on the X108G. All other digital modes seem to work fine but others don't require the fast switching that PACTOR does.
Спасибо большое, Oleg!
No he podido hacer eso. No creo que el cambio entre TX y RX sea lo suficientemente rápido en el X108G. Todos los demás usuarios digitales funcionan bien, pero otros no requieren el cambio rápido que hace PACTOR.

Hi Hammer,
I had read that the aux (3.5mm jack) is there for a future feature and at present does nothing. (from the service Manual:
"AUX interface function is not open yet, the internal
connects to the RX/TX port of processor, can be
reserved as a backup serial port."
- it sounds from this thread as if it is wired up and provides an audio interface? Or has this thread mixed up the aux 3.5mm socket with the 6 pin mini-DIN Acc socket ??

I have the same question about the aux port. I have a new unit with the latest software that has the SWR meter but the aux doesn't seem to get any audio in from a stereo adapter. Is there a way to enable this that I don't see?

Thanks,
Robb

I'm certain they meant to say the accessory socket - you know the 6 pin Mini-DIN (pin 5) not the Aux socket - that has connections back to the processor as far as I can see, so don't go trying to push audio input into the AUX socket!
